"A Time For Truth", Ted Cruz
ByPaul Tognetti " The real world is so much more interesting! "TOP 500 REVIEWER on August 31, 2015
“It is breathtaking and humbling to look in the eyes of a man who is asking you to help turn this country around, and the fact that it happened repeatedly never detracted from its power. Over and over again, hundreds of times, men and women looked me in the eyes, squeezed my hand as hard as they could, and said, “Ted, please, don’t go to Washington and become one of them.” -- pp. 214-215
With the 2016 Presidential election season rapidly approaching constitutional conservatives are casting about trying to identify the right person to lead a new conservative revolution in America. With such a crowded Republican field it can difficult cut through all of the press releases and bluster. Having said that, I have paid very close attention over the past year and have whittled down my list to about a handful of candidates. At the top of my list is the courageous Senator from the great state of Texas Ted Cruz. In his new book “A Time for Truth: Reigniting the Promise of America Senator Cruz tells his incredible life story and lays out his vision for America. Cruz is an extremely accomplished and principled individual who knows exactly where he would like to take our nation and is not afraid to articulate his ideas. In my view he is clearly the right man at the right time.
Ted Cruz strikes me as the committed conservative this country needs to radically change course over the next four years. Furthermore, after reading his story I find him eminently qualified to be our next President and Commander-in-Chief. Highly recommended!
"Guns, Grits, and Gravy", Mike Huckabee
ByDr.Stanley Toompason April 16, 2015
Another excellent book by Mike Huckabee. I must admit, that of all public figures in America over the past 10 years, I relate to him better than anyone else. He has abundant common sense, utmost integrity, and excellent character. I have stated this before: If only he could have been the 2008 Republican nominee and President instead of Barack Obama, our country would not be in the sad shape that it is. For any one reading this review, who is not convinced about him, consider this: Mike Huckabee, a conservative Republican, was elected multiple times to serve as Governor of Democratic dominated Arkansas!!!! Unlike many politicians, Mike states exactly what he believes..period, so everyone knows what he stands for. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

"Unintimidated", Scott Walker
By Scott A. Schumacher "Square_Peg" on August 13, 2015
Great read and captivating like few other political books I have read...once started, it was hard to put this book down.
Spells out. in a first person and friendly way, exactly what Gov Walker did, why he did it, the results and the dirty tricks that the left pulled trying to stop him. A true expose on the disgusting tactics that leftists use to beat their opposition into obedience.
Walker is an honest man with courage and integrity....we need more like him. No one could reasonably deny that what he did was in the best interests of the mass majority of the citizens of his state (and, by extension, for the citizens of other states where elected officials, encouraged by his actions/results, enacted similar legislation.)
The only people who could really complain about his reforms are those that get a paycheck from a union and those that benefited from seniority and other outrageous benefits "negotiated" by the unions when dealing with politicians that were bought and paid for.
As FDR said, public sector workers should never be allowed to be unionize and this book show EXACTLY why. Well done Gov!
"A More Perfect Union", Ben Carson
From the hard-cover edition:
Many people have wondered why I’ve been speaking out on controversial issues for the last few years. They say I’ve never held political office. I’m not a constitutional scholar. I’m not even a lawyer. All I can say to that is “Guilty as charged.” It’s true that I’ve never voted for a budget America could not afford. I’ve never raised anyone’s taxes. And I’ve never promised a lobbyist anything in exchange for a donation.
Luckily, none of that really matters. Our founding fathers didn’t want a permanent governing class of professional politicians. They wanted a republic, in Lincoln’s words, "of the people, by the people, and for the people." A country where any farmer, small-business owner, manual laborer, or doctor could speak up and make a difference. I believe that making a difference starts with understanding our amazing founding document, the U.S. Constitution. And as someone who has performed brain surgery thousands of times, I can assure you that the Constitution isn’t brain surgery.
The founders wrote it for ordinary men and women, in clear, precise, simple language. They intentionally made it short enough to read in a single sitting and to carry in your pocket. I wrote this book to encourage every citizen to read and think about the Constitution, and to help defend it from those who misinterpret and undermine it. In our age of political correctness it’s especially important to defend the Bill of Rights, which guarantees our freedom to speak, bear arms, practice our religion, and much more.
The Constitution isn’t history—it’s about your life in America today. And defending it is about what kind of country our children and grandchildren will inherit.
I hope you’ll enjoy learning about the fascinating ways that the founders established the greatest democracy in history—and the ways that recent presidents, congresses, and courts have threatened that democracy. As the Preamble says, the purpose of the Constitution is to create a more perfect union. My goal is to empower you to help protect that union and secure the blessings of liberty.
Sincerely, Ben Carson
"American Dreams", Marco Rubio
ByJeff Stover "JeffSto"on January 14, 2015
Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase
Finally, a breath of fresh air. For decades now, the republican party has allowed itself to be branded as uncaring toward the plight of the needy. Conservative leaders have been totally inept at articulating how limited government applies to those wishing to rise from their circumstances. Many haven't even tried to
make the case, instead writing off struggling Americans as a lost cause electorally (i.e. "the 47%" comment).
Enter Marco Rubio, the son of a bartender and a hotel maid. Instead of talking condescendingly about the 47%, he says things like this: "It all starts with our people. In the kitchens of our hotels. In the landscaping crews that work in our neighborhoods. In the late-night janitorial shifts that clean our offices. There you will find the dreams America was built on. There you will find the promise of tomorrow. Their journey is our nation's destiny. And if they can give their children what our parents gave us, the 21st-century America will be the single greatest nation that man has ever known."
This book is his vision for how to ensure that the American Dream once again reaches all of our people. And what a vision it is. Be forewarned: it's a book of policy. It's not always an exciting read -- but in a larger sense, it's extremely exciting. Because as he walks us through each step of reclaiming the Dream, you will start to see a different future for the country, different from this Obama age where America seems like europe's little brother (only with different accents and better food.)
Personally, I am just so eager to see America become exceptional again. For that to happen, we need a leader who believes America is exceptional and knows how to talk about it, one whose life has been touched by this country. This book makes it clear that such a leader exists and is waiting for his moment. Hopefully that moment is near.
"American Will", Bobby Jindal
Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, a much-talked-about 2016 presidential candidate, offers fourteen lessons from our nation’s past and discusses how they can be used to restore American courage, faith, and wisdom.
Nearly forty-five years ago, Bobby Jindal’s parents left their home in rural India—a place with no electricity or running water—to build a new life in the United States. Every day, Jindal’s father told him, “You should be grateful that you were blessed to be born in the greatest country in the history of the world”—a country where the son of poor immigrants could grow up to become the governor of Louisiana.
For Jindal, this defining experience bolsters a profound belief in American exceptionalism: Freedom is not just the American way, it’s the American will.
As we approach the next great turning point in this extraordinary nation’s remarkable history, Jindal brings to life inspiring stories from our country’s past that have influenced his beliefs and the indispensable lessons each can teach us about our future. Stories such as the stalwart senator who galvanized the public against Hillary Clinton’s costly and oppressive socialist health-care proposal in the early 1990s; the entrepreneur whose dogged determination ushered in a worldwide energy revolution, and with it technological innovation and economic growth; and the Founding Father who refused to “lead from behind” and instead used his vision for the nascent nation’s vast potential and the best interests of its people to outwit a greedy dictator.
In the next election, we can continue down the current destructive path of big government, emboldened enemies, diminished liberties, and hostility to religious faith. Or we can embrace the values that have always propelled America to the top: limited government; free people and free markets; strength and exceptionalism; and the essential role of religious faith in effecting change. American power is precious, and our vital interests and those of our allies depend on strong leadership. Whom will we choose: a cynic or a statesman, a politician or a problem solver? .....
"Agenda 21", Ron Taylor
Agenda 21: An Expose of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Initiative and the Forfeiture of American Sovereignty and Liberties explores how climate control will be used by the United Nations to bolster its position as a one world government and potentially usurp national sovereignty as well as individual rights.
From the text:
There is a new age dawning in America and around the world that promises to change everything you know and the values you hold dear.
From the Author:
Agenda 21 is about the United Nations' goal to constrain economic activity in developed nations and fundamentally change the way we live. Consider UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon's recent statement: "We aspire to nothing less than a global movement for generational change."
Also, based on recent (August 2014) comments by President Obama, a U.N. climate change treaty may be enacted without Congressional approval by claiming the new climate change treaty is simply an update to the existing treaty; and therefore not subject to review by the Legislative Branch.
As in Obamacare, the Administration is playing games with the legislative process in order to ram an unpopular initiative down the public's throat.
"Plunder and Deceit", Mark Levin

Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
“In “Plunder and Deceit”, Mark Levin tackles all the major issues of our day head on. Among the topics addressed in this book are Obamacare, the exploding national debt, immigration policy, Social Security, education and the environment. Levin makes it crystal clear why the policies touted by the Left are having such a devastating impact on the millennials and illustrates in meticulous detail why free markets and smaller government are the far more preferable options. But this book was not written for the rising generation alone. Americans of all ages will find an abundance of common sense between the covers of this exquisitely crafted volume. So buy it, read it and pass it on. Very highly recommended!”
"13 Hours", by Mitchell Zuckoff with the Annex Security Team
The Truth of Benghazi from the Security Operators who Lived it.
ByJim on March 28, 2016
I like the clear narrative from the point of view of the hired security operators who lived this event. The six operators were a combination of ex-SEALS, ex Marines, and former Delta Force. They had been hired to provide security to the State Department Compound in Benghazi and were stationed in an Annex a 1/2 mile from the Compound when the attack occurred. Given the political back and forth between Republicans and Democrats over the events this eye witness account is the most believable account. Zuckoff tells the story in an unemotional way, although he does include a narrative acknowledging the political controversy without judging it. His approach is: here's what happened, judge it yourself. To this end he includes the operators' viewpoint about the security provided to the Compound by the US Government.
I learned several facts from this account. For example, the US had an unarmed drone in the sky over the Compound sending images to Washington within 1-2 hours of the start of the attack. There were 4 attacks not 1. Ambassador Stevens was in contact with Washington and the Security Operators almost from the start and repeatedly asked for help. The Security Operators were held back at the Annex by Washington until the Operators decided to act on their own to defend the Compound and rescue Ambassador Stevens. Two Americans including Stevens died in the 1st attack and 2 Americans died in the 4th attack. There had been an earlier attack on the embassy in Cairo on 9/11/1012. Despite that omen, the US Government did not respond to Ambassador Steven's earlier requests for added security.
I strongly recommend this book for its insight into the truth of the Benghazi attack.
"Rising to the Challenge", Carly Fiorina
By Craig Matteson HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER on August 4, 2015
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I wish that Carly Fiorina could get some more traction in her run for President. This book is an amazing statement of who she is, why she is running for office, what her qualifications are, and why she is running. I find her compelling and very much in line with my thinking and beliefs.
I am becoming persuaded by her because I find her incredibly compelling. She is a conscience Conservative who is good on social issues, on the importance of small and medium businesses to the American Economy, the rot big government bureaucracies impose on people, places, and futures, and she has a broader experience in dealing with the Federal Government as an advisor and consultant than you might expect.
Her goals for the country are to “unlock the potential of every American. Revitalize Main Street and the middle class. Rebuild and retrain America. Reform Government. (And) Restore American Leadership. “ (page 171). Yes, this is a general vision and could be stated by any number of folks. I find her compelling because she knows how to tell the story from her mind and heart. Her Conservatism sounds like her native language not like she is speaking a foreign tongue as some of our more “moderate” candidates do when they use Conservative phrases they have focused group to death.
"Time to Get Tough - Make America Great Again", Donald Trump
Trump, From the Back Cover
“I Iove America. I’m saddened by what I see happening to our country. We’re being humiliated, pushed around, disrespected, and badly abused. Obama was a leftist experiment that has failed and gone horribly wrong, and everyone knows it. Even friends of mine who voted for the guy privately admit that he’s been a huge disappointment. We cannot afford four more years of this mess. Our children’s futures are on the line—and we have to come through for them. We have to get tough so that our country can be great again.”

"The Case Against the Iran Deal", Alan Dershowitz
By Joel B. Pollak on August 3, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This book offers useful context for evaluating the Iran deal, as well as a proposal for responding to it. Much of the book revisits of Dershowitz's columns over the past 10 years considering the Iranian challenge--the prospects of negotiations, the possibility of pre-emption, and the shifting approach taken by President Barack Obama. That context is very useful to evaluating the deal on the table today, as well as the credibility of the arguments on different sides of the issue. Dershowitz points out that Obama could have obtained a better deal if he had been serious about military force as a fallback option. In his introduction, Dershowitz notes that Obama promised (publicly as well as personally) that he would use military action to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb. It is clear that Dershowitz no longer believes Obama will do so, and that Obama may have lied. Dershowitz also points out that Obama weakened the deal by wresting control away from Congress (on the Iran deal and on other issues as well). While rejecting the deal will undermine its legitimacy, Dershowitz notes that Obama may be right that doing so will place the U.S. in a worse position (even if it is really Obama himself who bears responsibility). So he proposes that Congress do two things: 1. Pass a law stating that Iran's promise not to pursue nuclear weapons is official, enforceable U.S. policy (the commitment is in a part of the agreement whose legal weight is uncertain). 2. Pre-authorize the president to use military force to stop Iran from building a nuclear weapon. That, he says, is the best backstop to this bad deal, whether it is rejected or not. But there is also more that Congress must know, Dershowitz says, about the deal before voting. A useful resource.
