My Parents

Dad
My Dad, Lee McCorkill, was from the "Greatest Generation". He was born in a sod house in Cheyenne County,
Kansas. He spent his early years in Arkansas and returned to Kansas after the death of his father. Before World
War II he was an auctioneer and livestock trader. He served with the 95th Infantry Division in Europe and was part of
the force that liberated Metz, France and among the earlier forces to enter Germany. After the war he resumed
his auctioneering and livestock trading business and also farmed. He left these to enter the car sales business but later
returned to farming.

My Children
I have three sons. Arthur, the eldest, was born in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan during the time his mother and I
were living at Itazuke AB, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. He now lives in Prosper, Texas and is assistant plant manager for
a large egg processing company. The middle son, Gregory, was born at Merced, California while I was serving in Viet Nam. He
presently lives in Visalia, California and operates his own business. Scott, the youngest, was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico.
He presently lives in Squaw Valley, Fresno County, California and is a forest fire fighter.

Mom
My Mom, Hazel Marie Smith McCorkiil, was a teacher who began her career during world War II. Most of her early years
of teaching were spent in one room rural Kansas schools where she had students spanning the first eight years of their education.
After completing her Bachelor's degree she moved to high school teaching and spent the remaining years of her
career teaching history, government and English. My interest in genealogy is largely the result of her frequent conversations
about the history of our families in America.
